About Us

NovumAVI is a specialist consultancy based in Queensland, Australia. Our corporate philosophy is summed up in four words: simplicity, evidence, rigour, and fun:

  • Simplicity - clients want us to produce simple, elegant solutions, not to confuse them, or baffle them with complex jargon. Our skill is to take complexity and make it simple to deal with.
  • Evidence - our work is based on the best evidence available, not opinions or ideology - we gather the evidence and apply our brains to produce intelligent solutions that are robust and defensible.
  • Rigour - our hallmark. Rigour means getting it right, and that means checking and re-checking, it means getting the right evidence, it means questioning ourselves, and it means looking for the uncomfortable answers.
  • Fun - for us fun is working on intellectually stimulating questions, and coming up with smart answers. It's working with clients to solve problems. We aim to have fun because we're going to do a better job when we're enjoying ourselves. And we hope you'll have fun too.

How we work

Our approach to engagements is client and method centred. We work with clients in a structured problem-solving framework with an emphasis on testing hypotheses through empirical evidence. We find this an efficient and time-saving approach that leads to robust and workable solutions. Our client-centred approach is also focused on relationship building – we are concerned with adding value over the long-term.

Our Name

Our name echoes Francis Bacon's (1561-1626) classic work Novum Organum in which he set the intellectual and philosophical foundations of what became the scientific method.

At the heart of the scientific method is hypothesis-testing and evidence, and this is our approach.

Our work is about reducing uncertainty, achieving clarity, and moving towards truth. Our name also draws on this, and reflects some of our values: acuity, veracity and insight.

If a man will begin with certainties, he will end in doubts; but if he will be content to begin with doubts, he will end in certainties. (Bacon, 1605)
